| The Basics |
Character Name: Daphne Diana Greengrass PB: Ciara Nugent Age: 20 Birthday: October 19, 1979 Wand: Alder, 12", Unicorn Tail String House in School: Slytherin Bloodline: Pureblood Political View: Daphne is both a pureblood supremacist and a supporter of the Ministry. Since she was a child, she’s been raised to believe that she is better than more that half the world because of her heritage and she sure as hell believes it. She sees anyone with the slightest hint of a taint in their blood as positively horrific, and while she’s not openly prejudice, her thoughts are often enough to get her into Azkaban. It’s not mudbloods or muggles that affect her the most however, but the deformed part-human monsters like werewolves and centaurs. She finds their very existence disgusting and blasphemous to every ideal she upholds. Therefore, she agrees avidly with the Ministry’s new reforms and wishes only to make them stricter and more decisive towards the scum of the Wizarding World. |
| Appearance |
Height: 5'2" Weight: 106 lbs. Eyes: blue-gray Hair: A very dark brown and sleek. She usually wears it up in a sophisticated knot. Build: Extremely small, almost frail. Dress Style: She’s very classy. When she’s not wearing the finest of robes, Daphne will don expensive blouses and pencil skirts. Her clothes, though simple, are chic and classic. She never goes overboard. Basic Physical Description: Defining Marks: Daphne always looks completely poised and collected. Being so small, she often looks a bit like a doll with a cruel, sharp sense of beauty. She’s not necessarily what anyone would call pretty or attractive, but her jagged, aristocratic looks give her the appearance of someone you should pay attention to. Her eyes are her most decided feature, bright and tactful. |
| Personality |
Daphne is the image of grace and class. She is polite, well mannered, and charming. Her words are carefully chosen. She remains ruthless in her plight for society power and will not hold back from ruining someone’s reputation through gossip she has retrieved through her nice manner. She is back handed and will betray someone if they stand in her way. Daphne wishes to be a lady of great things and she’s willing to do anything she can to get there. Flirting, gossip, charms- anything to help her on her plight she is willing to do. She’s ambitious and wants all the power she knows she is capable of. Hey, she wasn’t a Slytherin for nothing. Most of Daphne’s quirks have been stamped out through intense sessions of etiquette, though when she sees someone she dislikes, her nose tends to twitch in disgust. Normally she tries to control such an unpleasant look, but more often than not catches herself doing it. When angry, she clenches her jaw tightly, sometimes biting at the inside of her mouth to create an even greater pout. When nervous, her hands grasp tightly in front of her diaphragm. For all her grace and charm, Daphne is unfortunately, not among the best of witches. She progressed in her classes at school through theory and can easily recite facts on the Goblin Wars or brew a sturdy potion, but actual magic is a fault with her. She finds it hard to produce a worthwhile curse or hex. Often, she felt completely helpless in DADA or charms, unable to do the assignment with ease like her peers. It was and still is embarrassing and humiliating. Therefore, she does all she can to make up for it in politics. Where is a dreadful witch, she is determined to be a more powerful official. Daphne is a pureblood girl and she knows her place- or at least what her place should be. It’s expected of her to get married and settle down with some boring man of her parents’ approval. And while she accepts this readily, it doesn’t mean she won’t take advantage of it. The girl has no intentions of becoming a hostess and housewife and every intention of progressing her career. The man she marries will be a tool, not anyone of sentimental value. During the war, she did everything she could within the Ministry to help the Death Eaters and her father. She often gave them inside information and gossip she had heard in the lounge and continues to do this. She was never part of the real fighting and had no desire to be, but ensured things were going the way she wanted them. The war has made her into an even better politician than before and she hopes it may have given her some friends in higher places, but she is not entirely sure. Yes, Daphne does have quite a chip on her shoulder and probably always will. She’s grown up as a pureblood and holds all those ideals close to her heart. She’s prejudice and cruel and cold, even if she normally doesn’t let it show. Perhaps if she had been raised differently, things would not be this way, but as it is, she is proud and wants to ensure she will be proud for the rest of her life. |
| Psychology |
Extrovert/Introvert:Daphne is in many ways an extrovert. She’s certainly not the life of the party, but her people skills are fantastic. She’s a politician through and through and can easily wrap most people around her finger with airy compliments and a kind simper. Daphne is always sure not to come of as arrogant or prejudice except with those very few people she trusts. Her goal is to make everyone believe she is an absolute doll, when in reality, to her everyone is just a pawn in her game of chess. She’s extremely social and outgoing, but her real feelings she keeps to herself. Boggart Would Be: Daphne’s boggart is a werewolf. She is utterly terrified of the nasty creatures not just because they are completely in humane, but also because they have the ability to make her inhumane as well. She finds the threat of them and their existence absolutely dreadful and is a firm supporter of any restrictions being made in the Ministry concerning them. Patronus Would Be: Never in her life has Daphne produced a Patronus and she greatly doubts she ever will. While she makes a great politician, she’s truly a terrible witch. |
| Sexuality |
Daphne is heterosexual, though she's never spent much time dating. Her standards are incredibly high and feels it is a waste of time to chase after a guy. Like her views on blood purity being ingrained into her head at a young age, her views on sexuality are harshly determined by her upbringing. She sees bisexual and homosexual relationships are simply wrong and appalling and chooses to ignore their existence all together. |
| Lifestyle |
Occupation:Daphne works is the Department of International Law Cooperation at the Ministry were she is slowly trying to move upward. She hopes one day to work directly alongside the Minister and though she knows it would never happen, wishes to be the Minister herself. Residence: A nice, spacious flat in downtown London paid for completely by her family. Financial Status: While her family’s fortunes can hardly compare to some of the great pureblood families of old, they certainly are doing well for themselves. Her parents still supply her with a good flow of cash whenever she asks for it and her salary is a nice benefit. Daphne really has no need to complain. |
| Family |
Parents: Peneus Xavier Greengrass, a former Death Eater and worker in the Department of Magical Transportation, and Cordelia Rookwood Greengrass Siblings: None. Daphne is an only child due to her mother’s conflicts with pregnancy. Daphne’s parents have never been pleased with their child’s lack of magical ability, but she does her best to make up for it. They both see the good in her people skills, no doubt from her father. During her childhood, her father was away from home due to work and Daphne was therefore raised by her quiet, civilized, and entirely classic mother. Their family gets along very well, all having the same ideals and beliefs. Peneus and Cordelia were never ones to fight and though there marriage was arranged, it has worked out quite well. Daphne never felt the two were in love, per say, but they certainly were great partners and still are to this day. |
| History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time |
Since she was a little girl, Daphne has been able to recall her father’s random absences and her mother’s smooth cover-ups. As the years passed, however, her mother’s excuses were not so smooth to her daughter’s growing intellect. Daphne eventually put two and two together, realizing her father was a Death Eater and was still actively part of the Dark Arts. Honestly, it did not come as a shock when her parents finally decided to tell her and she accepted it eagerly. She had been raised to uphold all the ideals of the Death Eaters and was taught to respect and revere their actions. The only thing she was really upset about was that her parents had not informed her sooner. She was proud that her father was a Death Eater and kept his secret readily. Being a Slytherin, it was no surprise when many of her classmates went off to join the Death Eaters and she was glad for them. She believes that being a Death Eater is truly a noble thing and it was an honor to be welcomed into their circle. Though Daphne easily had the opportunity to join them, both she and her father decided against it. Daphne has never been and never will be a particularly good witch and she was certainly not strong enough to fight along side the Death Eaters. She can barely ward off a boggart, much less cast an Unforgivable. Therefore, after a discussion with the Dark Lord, her father ensured her a good job at the Ministry- one that would give her the access to a good amount of information. While she was not authorized to see many crucial documents or news, Daphne was sure to work her “magic” during breaks, growing close to many of her co-workers. Gaining many friendships and trust, she was able to pick up information here and there on certain Ministry policies being made and the reactions and takes of other nations. She even caught up on a few Ministry plots to outdo the Death Eaters at certain locations and fed them immediately to her father. Though she was never inducted into the circle, she did whatever she could for there cause, even being sure to cover up the tacks of certain Death Eater activities in different countries through her office. She never got really any glory for her work and doesn’t expect to. Daphne was just glad to help in any way she could. Now that the war is over and the Light side has won, Daphne is devastated. She has always hated what the Light side stood for- loathing their inability to see what good the Death Eaters were doing. The Order and those working against the Dark Lord were forfeiting the chance at a pure community without the threat of losing their magic to muggles. Muggles have always been a threat to their very existence, slowly dominating the world with their technologies and sciences. They were odd and freakish and entirely moronic compared to wizards. It was a crime to accept them, much less fight for their survival. To find out that the Death Eaters had lost to these muggle loving idiots was horrifying and Daphne could not help but break down into sobs upon first hearing the news. The Death Eaters had finally offered a chance for good in this world and the Light side had screwed it up once more. Daphne knows there is no way now to call out these idiots for their wrongs against the Wizarding World without penalty, so she continues to keep her opinion and ideals to herself. The end of the war has only made her more determined than ever to achieve a position of influence in the Ministry. That way, she might be able to help the noble cause of purity somehow, whether by gaining new support or by helping to pass new laws and restrictions against the acceptance of such monstrosities. Daphne still respects and reveres the Death Eaters, but realizes the flaw in their plans. They simply didn’t play the political game- running straight to violence and atrocities. While she finds these actions justified, she can see why many people in the Wizarding World do not. They needed more moral support and someone with a high, unquestioned, and respected position in the Ministry could ensure that. She desperately wants to be that person. |
